Cindy's Story
Cindy Rooke is a South Australian artist who grew up on a farm near the rural town of Karoonda. Cindy has always been interested in native flora and fauna thanks to her upbringing. Her father is a farmer with an interest in birds and her mother is an art teacher with a passion for gardening. Cindy went on to become an art teacher, marry a farmer and then move back to her home town. Cindy now lives on their farm with her husband, four children, many kelpie dogs, cat and chickens.
Cindy has been involved in various art exhibitions since 2008 including the inaugural 2019 Colour Up Karoonda Silo night projection. She has been the main artist for several public murals, creates commission work and participates in market stalls.
The night projection on the Karoonda Silo in December 2020 was Cindy’s first solo exhibition. She chose artworks that reflected her love of birds, plants and animals that surround her. Cindy loves coloured pencil but also paints when she has time to deal with the setup and preparation due to a busy family and farm life.
